In Baltimore City, a Short-Term Rental is a rental of all or a portion of your home for periods of less than 90 nights. Both hosted (owner-occupied) and un-hosted (non-owner occupied) units must be registered and licensed.
In order to obtain a rental license to rent your home as Short-Term Rental, the property must; (1) be your principal residence; (2) be deeded in your name (the name of an individual, not a company); and (3) be free of any code violations.
The Baltimore City Council passed Ordinance 19-217 (Council Bill 18-0189) establishing several requirements for Short-Term rentals, including the licensing of such units. These requirements can be found in the Baltimore City Code Article 15, Licensing and Regulation, Subtitle 48, Short-Term Residential Rentals.
All Short-Term rentals must be licensed.
If you are submitting a new Short-Term rental application or if you are renewing an existing Short-Term rental license, you will be required to create a new online account and new Short-Term rental registration in the new online portal.
Hosted units – A hosted unit requires the owner to reside in the property with the guest(s) during their stay. Hosted units may renew or apply for a new license using this site.
Un-hosted units – Un-hosted units must already have an existing Short-Term rental license and can renew their license using this site. There are no new licenses being issued for un-hosted units.
For Short-Term license renewals only: To renew your existing/expired Short-Term rental license, you will need a Claim Code. The Claim Code will be sent to the email address associated with your original Short-Term Rental registration account.
