What We Do
The Mayor's Office on Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) is committed to making all of Baltimore's neighborhoods safer by working with residents, groups, businesses, and government groups.
We follow a 5-year plan called the Comprehensive Violence Prevention Plan to help guide our mission. Formed in December 2020, MONSE took over from the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice. Our main job is to reduce gun violence and deal with the deeper reasons behind violence in the city. MONSE takes the lead in making sure the Mayor's plan is carried out. With a fair and just approach, our goal is to help Baltimore City residents feel secure where they live, work and play.
Our portfolio includes Baltimore’s community violence intervention ecosystem, funding allocations for community-based organizations directly involved in the co-production of public safety, the Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS), and victim services work.
