Getting Around Baltimore City
Baltimore City is a great city to be in if you don’t have a car. Living in Baltimore City provides you with lots of alternatives to using your car for either your daily commute to work, or for running errands. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, leaving your car home just two days a week can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,600 pounds per year. In Baltimore City, you can walk, bicycle, use public transportation, take a cab, rent a car or join a Car Sharing program to make Baltimore cleaner and greener.
MTA Bus, Subway and Light Rail Service
MTA bus service currently has more that 60 bus routes, which include high frequency CityLink, LocalLink and Express BusLink routes which operate from various suburbs to downtown Baltimore. In addition to bus service, MTA operates Metro SubwayLink and Light RailLink which operates in and around the downtown Baltimore area. Fares are $2.00 for one-way and $4.60 for a day pass and can be paid by CharmPass mobile fare app or cash when boarding the bus.

The Charm City Circulator is a free downtown bus system to help visitors and residents get around. Buses run about every 15 minutes along the four following routes:
- Orange: Hollins Market through Harbor East
- Purple: Inner Harbor/Federal Hill through 33rd Street
- Green: City Hall, Fell’s Point through John Hopkins
- Banner: Inner Harbor through Fort McHenry
Dockless Scooters & Bicycles
Electric scooters, and sometimes bicycles, such as Lime and Spin, are available throughout the city. For a small fee you can pick up a scooter wherever you find one and drop it at your destination. (Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet and use bike lanes.) Simply download your preferred brand’s app, plan your route and you’re ready to go.

The Harbor Connector (HC) is an extension of the Charm City Circulator (CCC). It is the City’s free, maritime transit service and connects four piers.
Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to ride the CCC.
