Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Commission

History

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake established The Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Commission in 2015 to improve bicycle infrastructure in Baltimore. It replaced the informal Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Committee.

It was reaffirmed by former Mayor Catherine Pugh in March 2017.

The Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Commission provides elected & appointed officials with advice on bike-related transportation matters.

Today

The Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Commission is a 12-member commission comprised of representatives of the bicycling community, the Baltimore community at large, professions related to bicycle planning and traffic engineering, Department of Transportation employees, the Baltimore Police Department, the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Planning Department, and members of the business community.

Purpose

The goal of the Commission is to engage in a cooperative planning and implementation process to ensure the successful execution of Baltimore City’s Bicycle Master Plan.

In 2019, the Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Commission adopted the following goals:

  1. We will assist City Agencies by coordinating bicycle-supporting activities and advising on upcoming projects and programs listed in the Bicycle Master Plan, focusing on keeping up with best practices and increasing safety and equity.
  2. We will represent the community's needs in relation to bicycling by allowing the public a venue to advocate for their needs and informing the public on efforts by the City of Baltimore to advance bicycling in an equitable manner.
  3. We will create a dialogue with elected officials by communicating the work of City agencies and the community's needs.
  4. We will advocate for the prioritization of capital funding for bicycling facilities and operating support for programs and projects related to bicycling.

Commission meetings are subject to the Maryland Open Meeting Act and open for public attendance.

Our meetings are generally held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month, held virtually on Microsoft Teams.
