Baltimore, MD (Friday, February 2, 2024) - On Monday, January 29, 2024, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Continuum of Care (CoC) funding awards. Baltimore City's CoC was awarded over $29 million that will fund 43 projects across 19 homeless services organizations. Projects include Permanent Supportive Housing, Rapid Re-housing, Transitional Housing, Support Services, and Safe Haven projects. The award also includes dedicated youth projects through the original Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) and funding to support CoC Planning, the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), and Coordinated Access. The three new projects awarded through this grant are anticipated to start by Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
“As we continue to work in partnership with our local homeless service providers, community-based organizations, and community members, this funding is critical to helping the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services (MOHS) aid efforts to provide housing stability, resources, and support to Baltimore City residents." said Mayor's Office of Homeless Services Director Ernestina Simmons. "I appreciate the CoC Board, Resource Allocation Committee, and MOHS staff on another successful CoC submission, and look forward to continuing this incredibly important work with them as we begin to receive this critical funding.”
The CoC Program is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, states, Indian Tribes or tribally designated housing entities, and local governments to quickly rehouse homeless individuals, families, persons fleeing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, and youth while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused by homelessness; to promote access to and effective utilization of mainstream programs by homeless individuals and families; and to optimize self-sufficiency among those experiencing homelessness.
The CoC Program Competition is an annual competitive application process. The Baltimore CoC submitted an application for funding on Monday, September 25, 2023.
