City-State Project Is an Investment of More Than $2.3 million in the South Baltimore Green Space
BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, June 18, 2024) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Baltimore City Recreation & Parks (BCRP), city and state leaders, and community partners gathered to unveil renovations Riverside Park in South Baltimore. As part of the broader Rec Rollout effort, the completed renovations are only Phase I of the project.
Riverside Park now features a renovated outdoor basketball court; stand-alone pickleball court; an irrigated, regulation-sized softball diamond; and multipurpose fields. Additionally, the athletic fields now have ADA accessible walkways and terraced bleacher seating.
“Today, we celebrated a long-awaited day as we cut the ribbon on a number of upgrades to Riverside Park,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “My administration has made upgrading and improving our Rec & Parks facilities across the city an absolute top priority, and I’m proud that we were able to carry this project over the finish line, especially to ensure that this park is now more accessible to the entire community. This project would not have been possible without the hard work and advocacy of our team in Annapolis and the funding and support we received from the state. I want to extend my deep thanks and appreciation to the entire District 46 team, including Senate President Ferguson, Delegates Clippinger, Lewis, and Edelson, and former delegate Comptroller Brooke Lierman, for their tireless effort to make this project a reality.”
This project, funded through City bonds and the State’s Program Open Space, represents an investment of more than $2.3 million. Phase II calls for renovating Riverside Park’s fieldhouse with improvements that include an updated meeting room and additional storage. The work is expected to be completed by Fall 2024.

BCRP’s Rec Rollout includes ribbon cuttings and a series of groundbreaking celebrations announcing upcoming recreational projects. The City is slated to announce upgrades at Coldstream Aquatic Center later this week. The City is slated to continue announcing upgrades for several recreation spaces throughout 2024.
