City Celebrates Beginning of Pool Season With Annual Big Splash

BALTIMORE, MD – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, City officials, and Baltimore City Recreation & Parks (BCRP) kicked off pool season with its annual Big Splash event at Cherry Hill Splash Park. There is no cost to swim at City pools, but residents must have a Civic Rec account.

In 2024, the city is operating the vast majority of its swimming pools, with 18 of 23 currently open. City Park pools operate through Labor Day, while Neighborhood Pools are open through Saturday, August 17. The remaining pools are only closed for renovation or repair, as part of the Scott Administration’s broader efforts to upgrade facilities, many of which have not been addressed in decades.

“Our city pools offer a place of fun and community where Baltimoreans of all stripes come to beat the heat and enjoy the summer months – and we want everyone to do so safely,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “Since the beginning of this administration, we have made improving our aquatic facilities and upgrading pools that have not been touched in decades an absolute top priority. Every resident deserves world-class facilities to swim and play, and delivering on that goal is what these types of investments are all about.”

This summer, Park Pools are open seven days a week, operating Monday thru Thursday, 12 – 3 p.m. and 4 – 7 p.m. Weekend hours are Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 4 – 8 p.m. Neighborhood Pools are open Monday through Saturday, 12 – 3 p.m. and 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Additionally, BCRP — in partnership with the Mayor’s Office — is hosting four Splash Fest events for teens. Splash Fest are teen pool parties that feature extended pool hours, music, food, games, and more.

“The City is really excited about welcoming swimmers of all ages to enjoy our pools all around the city. We want to ensure that we prioritize safety by reminding the public to only enter our pools during operating hours,” said BCRP Executive Director Reginald Moore. “Rec & Parks is committed to providing plenty of opportunities for residents, especially our young people, to escape the heat. We’re looking forward to the return of our teen pool parties, which is now known as Splash Fest. In 2023, our youth really enjoyed these events but we’re always looking for creative ways to take our programming to the next level.”
