About Joy Scalabrin

As the Language Access Project Manager, Joy will help build capacity to serve Limited English Proficient (LEP) residents in Baltimore City. More specifically, she will assist city agencies with language access, especially as related to programs funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). As the Language Access Project Manager, Joy will provide direct, intensive assistance to City agencies throughout the design & implementation process for any program that provides relief or resources for City residents created as a result of the pandemic. She will support city agencies with translation of vital documents, access to telephonic interpretation services, and training frontline staff members on working with LEP individuals.

Prior to joining MIMA, Joy worked in college admissions and as a volunteer program coordinator for a community resource navigation program in East Baltimore. She comes to the office with direct service experience having served Baltimore’s immigrant community in public school and healthcare settings as a social worker and case manager. Joy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health Studies and Spanish from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in community action and social policy from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Joy is proficient in Spanish and conversational in Korean.
